Dataphyte Nigeria, the niche data journalism platform alongside twenty-two other media platforms across the continent, has joined the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) media community.
The twenty-three new additions increased the number of members of the GFMD community to 147 working across over 140 countries.
Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) is an international membership network of media assistance groups that highlights the importance of free media in social and economic development. GFMD shares a common goal to foster professional and pluralistic media in society.
Through collaboration, GFMD seeks to foster the flow of information and experience within its community. Their work covers a wide range of reporting and activities, including independent journalism, greater transparency, and more pluralistic and sustainable media environments.
Global Forum Media Development works with members to promote media development and support journalism wherever it is threatened across the globe.
Dataphyte Nigeria and two other media outlets, Tafnied from Egypt and Media Foundation for West Africa from Ghana, are the latest additions to the community from Africa.
The other new community members include ten organisations from Europe, four from North America, two from South America, and two from Asia. They will join the GFMD community to create, promote and deliver policies and programs to sustain journalism as a public good collectively and in their contexts.
Speaking on the milestone, the Founder and Executive Director of Dataphyte, Joshua Olufemi, said the GFMD membership is a testament to Dataphyte’s commitment to media innovation and sustainability in Africa and beyond. “At Dataphyte, we are committed to creating and advancing media innovation and sustainability so that the fourth estate of the realm can remain truly independent and continue to drive the ideals of transparency and accountability.
