The candidate of the All Progressives Caongress (APC) in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Sokoto State, Aliyu Ahmed, has been declared winner.

Ahmed garnered 453,661 votes to trounce his closest rival, Umar Saidu of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP), who got 404, 632 votes.

Sokoto is currently governed by the PDP’s Aminu Tambuwal, who was once a member of the APC.

Aliyu was Tambuwal’a deputy from 2015 to 2018, when he resigned from office over political differences.

But the situation is different in Plateau State, where the PDP’s Caleb Mutfwang won the governorship election.

According to the returning officer for the governorship election and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Lafia, Professor Idris Amali, the PDP candidate polled 525,299 votes to beat his closest rival and candidate of the ruling APC, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, who got 481,370 votes.

The PDP governed Plateau State from 1999 to 2015 when the current Governor, Simon Lalong, came to power on the platform of the APC.

The PDP governorship candidate won in local government areas such as Riyom, Jos South, Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Mikang, Langtang South, Langtang North, Bokkos, Quaapan and Mangu.

The APC, on the other hand, won in Wase, Jos North, Kanke, Kanam, Pankshin, Jos East, and Shendam.

The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) won Plateau State during the February 25 presidential election.
