The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has won the March 18 gubernatorial election. He won in 31 of the 33 local government areas, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Makinde scored 563,756 to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Teslim Folarin, who got 256,685 votes and Accord Party candidate, Adebayo Adelabu, with 38,357 votes.
Makinde is the second governor to win re-election in Oyo State after the late Abiola Ajimobi. He is a member of G-5 Governors who opposed the candidacy of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Oyo State’s 2021 half-year internally-generated revenue was estimated at N25.192 billion, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Oyo State was third among states with highest IGR in the South-West, coming behind Lagos and Ogun states.
