Just when Nigerians were adjusting to eased restrictions, Coronavirus shows that it’s not yet an afterthought with 138 infected Corpers and a 295 case load hike. In other news, Nigeria met 99% of her FIRS target.

9 Soldiers

Even governors are seemingly not safe nowadays. On November 20, Boko Haram terrorists reportedly ambushed the Babagana Zulum on his route to Baga, Kakawa Local Government Area. Worse, though, this is the third attack in three months to the Borno State Governor. So far, there are nine dead soldiers from his convoy; seven died on the spot, while two more died later in Maiduguri for serious injuries.

138 Corpers

As excited as core members were going to camp after a long delay due to Coronavirus, it seems the disease is still dampening their experience as NCDC reveals 138 members tested positive for Coronavirus across the country. Chike Ihekweazu, Director General of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, disclosed this on Monday. Adding that the Agency opted to treat positives either at home or a centre depending on symptom severity. He also mentioned that the NCDC has tested 34,785 core members, and so far got only 138 positives.

1,232 Coronavirus Cases

Still on the novel Coronavirus, there is reportedly a hike in fresh cases as of last week with 1,232 recent cases. This is a hike of 295 cases as against the previous week (937). Despite the rise in cases, there has been a decline in testing, from 29,502 in the second week of November to 27,399 in the third week of November. However, the good news is that despite the increasing numbers of new cases, the death rate has reduced as of last week with three recorded deaths as opposed to nine recorded deaths in the second week of November.

₦4.178 Trillion

A bit of good news for the financial sector bracing up for the incoming recession. The Federal Inland Revenue Service has disclosed in Abuja, on Monday, that it has generated up to ₦4.178 trillion out of a target of ₦4.23 trillion. Mr Femi Olawaniyi, the Coordinating Director of Tax Operations Group of the FIRS, said that this amount represents 99% of their target this year. He also lamented that big names are evading tax payment, and this is not right at all. “While we met our target, this doesn’t mean that the tax team is feeling relaxed. Contrary to that, investigations are being conducted on big corporations that have not remitted their taxes”.
